Profile of the Institute
Engineers in the wind energy sector have to face numerous challenges. The rapid growth of the industry requires a large portion of innovation and creativity. The close interaction of different engineering disciplines and non-technical areas demands for interdisciplinary skills and a related education.
The Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES) couples the existing competencies at Leibniz Universität Hannover. In research projects, we work together with institutes of different faculties in close collaboration. Due to the intense cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems, we close the gap between fundamental and applied research.
IWES is also engaged in the education program of the University. We teach core competencies in the context of wind energy engineering, the principles of wind farm design, and aerodynamic and structural aspects in rotor blade design.
